A cool stiff breeze did nothing to prohibit a good turn out today. Ten knights set off from Market Cross over the Westwood and on to Walkington heading for Bluestone bottoms then up Comberdale hill. Winds coming off the starboard bow on the way up didn’t help so it was a bit relief to finally reach the long downward sweep into South Cave then on to North cave.
Having regrouped on the Cliffe road the chain gang set of into the strong breeze. The old fellow at the back couldn’t keep the wheel so was quickly dropped. Then a rather kind gentleman came up behind and paced him up to another two stragglers. The squad regrouped again at Market Weighton before the final push to Goodmanham and the Fiddle Drill where a warm welcome awaited, although Heather having milk dropped on the floor beside her was rather unexpected, it did lead to the usual jokes about spilt milk!
Once suitably refreshed, it was time to face that cold air again but with the cheering thought of a back wind most of the way. The run towards Holme on the Wolds was very pleasing. The final run home took us through Etton and Cherry Burton
